How to Become a Race Volunteer
The Kuskokwim 300 relies heavily on volunteer support to run our organization. We need volunteers for nearly everything. The time commitment can be as small as 1 hour or as big as anyone wants to make it. Here is what we currently need from the community:
Musher Housing: Hosting a K-300 musher is a tradition that dates back to the first race. The Race Committee helps mushers traveling to Bethel find host families. The duties of a host family are fairly simple. All we ask of a host family is a room and a small area outside where mushers can tether their dogs. Mushers will stay with their family for 3 to 4 days prior to the race, and for a day or two after the race. Hosting a musher is a great way for people to get involved in the event and gives the family someone to cheer for during the race. Truck Support: The Race Committee is always in need of trucks to help haul mushers their dogs and gear. We need trucks a few days before the race to help with airport picks ups. We also need lots of trucks and drivers to take mushers and their teams to the start line.
Start Line Staging Crew: We need 10 to 15 people to help direct teams to their proper staging area, and to help them get to the start line on time. This is a fast pace job that puts you in the middle of the start of the race.
Finish Line Timers: A finish line timer waits at the finish line in Bethel and records musher finish times, they then call this information in to race HQ.
